Film Academy Instructors

As Children's Film Academy continues to grow, we are expanding our team of instructors. We are seeking experienced industry professionals who are passionate about working with children and helping develop the next generation of actors, presenters and media artists.

 Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Job Type: Independent Contractor / Freelance

Schedule: Evening classes (Monday-Friday)

Compensation: CAD $35 per hour

Responsibilities

Depending on your area of expertise, responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering instruction in your discipline through practical, industry-focused training.

  • Preparing students for productions, performances and on-camera work.

  • Creating a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment.

  • Conducting group classes.

  • Monitoring student progress and providing constructive feedback.

  • Working collaboratively with the creative and production teams at Publish Art Productions.

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.

  • Native or near-native English proficiency with the ability to teach fluently and professionally in English.

  • Readiness to work with children and teenagers in group settings.

  • Excellent organizational, time management and classroom management skills.

  • Ability to inspire, motivate and mentor young performers in a positive learning environment.

  • Successful completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (issued by the local police service in the applicant's place of residence).

  • Successful completion of an Alberta Child Intervention Record Check (issued by the Government of Alberta).

  • Teach professional acting for film, television and media through practical training in character development, emotional expression, improvisation, script interpretation and on-camera performance. Prepare students for auditions, professional productions and confident performances in front of the camera.

  • Teach body control, coordination, balance, movement, physical expression and stage awareness essential for actors, presenters and performers working in film, television and live productions.

  • Teach professional vocal technique, breathing, intonation, diction, vocal performance and microphone technique. Prepare students for studio recording, concerts, auditions and professional live performances.

  • Teach television and media presentation, public speaking, interviewing, script delivery, live presentation and professional on-camera communication. Develop confident presenters capable of working in television, online media and live events.

  • Teach professional posing techniques for photography, advertising, fashion and commercial productions. Develop body language, facial expression, movement and confidence in front of the camera for both photo and video projects.

  • Teach the fundamentals of makeup and personal styling for photography, film, television, fashion and public appearances. Help students develop practical skills in creating complete on-camera and stage-ready looks.

  • Teach professional performance techniques for film, television and commercial productions, including camera awareness, screen presence, continuity, eyelines, movement, marks and working confidently during professional filming.

  • Teaches students the fundamentals and practical techniques of cinematography and professional camera operation. Instruction includes camera setup and handling, framing and composition, shot types, camera movement, focus, exposure, lenses, and practical camera work for film and media production.

  • Teaches students the principles and practical application of lighting for film and media production. Instruction includes lighting equipment, light placement and control, exposure, lighting setups, visual composition, creating mood and atmosphere, and working effectively with lighting on a professional production set.

  • Teaches students the fundamentals and practical techniques of recording professional sound for film and media production. Instruction includes microphones, boom operation, wireless audio systems, recording equipment, sound levels, dialogue recording, monitoring, and proper production sound procedures on set.

  • Teaches students the fundamentals and practical techniques of video editing and post-production. Instruction includes organizing and managing footage, editing scenes and sequences, working with dialogue and sound, basic color correction, titles and graphics, export and delivery, and the complete post-production workflow for film and media projects.
